PLEXSYS’ OnScene Commander Employed for West Point Field Training for 3rd Consecutive Year

Apr 20, 2017 | By: Tara Marta

WEST POINT, N.Y., April 20, 2017 – For the third consecutive year, West Point selected OnScene Commander (OSC) and the PLEXSYS/PARSONS team, consisting of technical and operational expertise, to help Army leadership ensure cadet safety.  OSC, the situational awareness software created by PLEXSYS, was subcontracted by PARSONS to assist West Point in both the Sandhurst international training competition and their cadets’ annual summer field training from April through August.  Information about OSC and its features is accessible at https://plexsys.com/osc.

To kick off the year, PLEXSYS OSC software and personnel from PLEXSYS and PARSONS supported the annual Sandhurst competition.  This competition involved over 60 teams from 12 nations who came to compete in a 22 mile, 36 hour competition in some of the most difficult terrain the NE has to offer.  The two-day competition consisted of day and night ops, physical conditioning, marksmanship, leadership and problem solving events.  During the competition, Army leadership relied upon OSC for a common operation picture and multiple communication options. As the competition unfolded, OSC gave leadership the information necessary to make personnel decisions, ensuring that the flow of competitors through events was consistent. For instance, OSC alerted leadership when cadets violated geographical boundaries that were preloaded into OSC’s alert system.  These alerts made it easy to intervene where necessary to ensure participant safety. At the close of the competition, routes were displayed and reviewed before final decisions were made. OSC’s one-second interval after action review (AAR) capability was essential in evaluating the top 10 teams and any teams needing course validation. Sandhurst was an excellent start to what will be another successful year of monitoring and facilitating AAR at West Point. Nick Bittle, a PLEXSYS employee involved in the project, said “PLEXSYS is honored to be a part of the team ensuring the safety of our future leaders.”
