PLEXSYS’ EnGen and ASCOT 7 Working Together for Seamless Scenario Development

What is EnGen?

EnGen is a distributed computing framework tailored for modeling and simulation, and it enables multiple PLEXSYS products to perform environment generation. EnGen allows the user to deploy selected models and services onto a distributed network leveraging available hardware to spread the processing load, providing a 3D viewing capability and a modeling interface to process any live and simulated data sets. In a session, EnGen provides framework capabilities through the Master Server and Server Node. As an extension of the Master Server, the Server Node can distribute the workload required per machine for environment generation. EnGen’s scalability allows it to be deployed on a single laptop or high-end, rack-mounted server hardware with many varied clients. Unlike other Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) frameworks, EnGen’s scalable and open architecture provides compatibility with a wide variety of environment generators.

What is ASCOT 7?

The Advanced Simulation Combat Operations Trainer (ASCOT) 7 is a high fidelity environment generator, and it is designed for military trainers needing real-time, interactive, multi-platform simulation. The capability for distributed, large-scale, modern, theater-level battlespaces provides an immersive background for simulations across single or multiple sites. The modern, intuitive user interface simplifies developing complex scenarios with dynamic entity creation and management and comprehensive data link capabilities.

How Do They Work Together?

Much like how an air traffic controller at an airport determines when and where planes take off and land, Session Manager determines which computers the Master Server, the ASCOT 7 clients, and other applications launch and when they shut down. Once the software is installed on all required machines in your simulation network, from Session Manager, you can assign ASCOT 7, EnGen, and optional Server Nodes for distributed processing. You can also disperse any additional applications to those machines configured to meet your needs. Once configured, the user can save multiple sessions for different training events or scenario development purposes.
